Cautiously, quietly, Etain searched every part of the cathedral for signs of the masked stranger. The place seemed to go on and on, turning and winding for an eternity. In one or two rooms, she found signs of life: a half-eaten piece of bread here, a pile of opened, dog-eared books there, the smoldering remains of a few trial spells tucked about. She found further mysteries still: there was an underground level in this cathedral, the first part of which contained the usual larder and wine cellar, but the latter part of which had been closed up. Etain had rather recently become the sort of girl that didn’t let these obstacles bar her way
